I bought this value sample set a few months back because, like many others, I have heard so many amazing remarks about them. I must admit it has taken me this long because I never understood what the hype was about. I rushed home, took off my makeup because I just had to try them and was at a loss of words. I thought maybe I just am not using it right, maybe it will grow on me… But maybe, just maybe these aren’t what most people make them out to me.
The set contained:
-Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara
-Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Push-Up Liner
Let’s start with the mascara shall we. The claim on this product is that it, “lengthening mascara that curls, volumizes, lifts, and separates lashes for an ‘out-of-here’ look- now.” While I agree the want is perfect for separating your lashes and it indeed gives them a nice curl without an eyelash curler, I would not say it gives you any wow factor. What I like about it is that it is very natural. It does not clump, it actually doesn’t even look like you are wearing mascara, it doesn’t harden your lashes and does not flake off which is awesome. It only slightly lengthens your mascara, all of this makes me realize the title is accurate; They’re real. It gives you darker, natural looking lashes with a slight curl but no va va voom.
EDIT: I am not saying the mascara is horrid, but for the price it is not worth it in my opinion. If you do want to try a Benefit mascara I reccomend their Roller Lash one.
The gel eyeliner was the real disappointment here. While the design is very innovative it does not work for me. I found it hard to create a clean wing and even harder to apply. I have quite sensitive eyes and to get this eyeliner to show nicely I had to press quite hard and even then it was not very dark. As you can see from the photos I didn’t actually put much on my eye because it was simply too rough. It claims to be waterproof and last for 24 hours which I can see. I applied it to my hand and started rubbing, it wouldn’t budge one bit- only a slight fade.
Verdict: Mascara isok at best but not worth the money and the eyeliner is a complete dud.
All in all I won’t be repurchase either of these. The eyeliner is a complete nay for me while the mascara will be nice to use on my bottom lashes of days I only put mascara on.
Have you tried these products, if so what is your verdict on them? Let me know in the comments below!
