My Experience so far with Ipsy has been fun, I love the monthly contests they hold and their personality quiz is much better than their competitors , I feel like they really just to get to know you personally. When you go to review an item they ask you a million questions about it, including if you liked the colour, that type of product etc etc. It makes the customers feel taken care of and well respected. However it isn’t all good for me, I am in Canada so we can’t buy any of the deals they have going which is a HUGE loss for me because there are so many good deals. These are the items from Augusts bag.
Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Liner Pen
When I first saw this I was unimpressed, we all have 15 different black eyeliners (or is that just me?) so it wasn’t something that excited me to receive. However, it is good, doesn’t go over eye shadow really well so I usually run a q-tip near my lash line before applying. It isn’t as dark as I would have liked it to be either, however you can put multiple coats to make it really black. Stays on all day though which is perfect. I could see myself possibly buying this again.
Hikari Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Merlot
At first glance I loved the colour in the container and has antsy to try this on but sadly it is a bit more of a pinky plum colour when applied, which goes horribly with my skin tone. I wish it was a more of a deep Merlot colour, it would have been perfect for fall. All in all it does apply smoothly, isn’t very sticky and has great pigmentation. If they shipped to Canada I would order more colours for sure.
Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in Elegantly Wasted
I am in no way shape or form a nail polish junkie. I like it but I have horribly stubby and small nail beds which make it no fun and hard to paint, even the nail salons have told me they don’t like them. So When I received this nail polish I wasn’t too excited but to my surprise it was easy to work with, and has great colour to it. Dried super fast making applying two coats easy rather than tedious and no ‘I cant touch or itch anything or 40 minutes or my nails will smudge” time. I can honestly say I have never felt this way about nail polish before, I want every colour of this nail polish brand! This alone made the bag worth it.
Briogeo Blossom & Bloom Ginseng + Biotin Volumizer
This is in no way a holy grail of hair volumizers but it smells amazing, left my hair feeling very soft and looking shiny so it was worth it for that alone. I may buy this again, undecided so far. “This dual-action spray enhances the look of hair fullness with long-term thickness results. It’s cruelty-free, 98% naturally-derived formula is vegan-friendly and formulated without parabens, phthalates, silicone, gluten, synthetic fragrances and dyes.”
This is exactly what it says, an ULTRA MILD face wash. It smelt alright nothing amazing and left my skin feeling nice. I have been using it in the morning because it doesn’t do well with leftover makeup (luckily for toner) however it was overall good and did what it said. I won’t be buying this again though since it doesn’t fit all my needs.
My experience with Birchbox has been ok at best, I went for these two boxes for makeup subscriptions but I received a lot of junk I just won’t use, specially with this one, I hope next month turns out better considering I did a year. They have a quiz but it isn’t well designed in a way that it can not catch the essence of your personality. I feel like they just put whatever in the Canadian ones. I was super excited for the Birchbox plus and makeup organizer they advertised in the Birchbox August 2015: Sample Choice and Birchbox Plus Reveal [Video] however they forgot to mention that it was not for Canadian Residents. Here I was sitting and checking my e-mail obsessively so I could participate and make sure that organizer ended up here… It never came and later on customer support informed me Canadian can’t take part in such things on their site yet… Aside from that their point system is really well done.
I was really hoping for the red one, would have gone much further than this on. It went on ok, a bit dry and chalky, smelt great, stayed on well but it looked horrible on my yellow skin tone so I use it as a blush instead. It’s creamy and easy to blend. I will not purchase this or any other colours again though. Most days this is the lipstick my daughter can play with while I do my makeup.
Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream in a Pomegranate Scent
This does what it claims, it is gentle, smooth and leaves your legs feeling so soft. The smell is very pleasant and it was nice to try out however I don’t usually use these products, might be nice to have in the winter though !
Temple Spa Peace Be Still Calming Face and Body Balm
The scent reminded me of getting my hair washed at a luxurious hair salon, I have always loved salon shampoos so it was a very pleasant. It absorbed quickly and didn’t leave anything feeling greasy as long as you put the right amount on. I will probably keep this in my purse as a hand lotion on the go, or wait until winter when I REALLY need a leg moisturizer.
Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels
I was disappointed in only getting one of these to try out, you can’t tell if a product really works from one application. With that being said it was nice to have a mini at home spa treatment and felt good. When on it feels tight and cooling, and it did help with my tired mom bags becoming more firm . I probably won’t buy the full size because of the price, I already have something that works for much less.
Amika Un.D one Texture Spray
This does exactly what it says, gives your hair great texture and perfect for voluminous messy looks and up dos, Smells pretty good as well however I probably won’t buy the full size though since my hair is pretty thick.
